How easy are they to care for?
We would class this fish as a medium level of care, they require tank mates with a gentle temper to stop aggression towards their extended finnage.

How large can they grow?

Where in the world are they from?
Originating from the Papua origin of Indonesia, often found in densely populated vegetation.

What is the ideal number to keep together?
Best kept in groups of 6 or more with more females present.

What water conditions do they require?
Ideally slightly acidic water conditions are provided between 6.5pH - 7pH however they will happily live in conditions ranging up to pH of 7.5 or higher. Temperatures should range between 24-26°C

What should you feed them?
Threadfin rainbows will happily accept a wide range of foods, however due to their small mouths these should be either broken down or be offered crushed flakes and frozen foods such as Daphnia.

How compatible are they with other fish?
Largely compatible as a peaceful community fish, as previously stated care should be taken to avoid nippy or overly active tank mates.

Can they be bred in captivity?
Whilst possible to breed in captivity it they are egg scatterers and raising of fry should be done in purpose built tanks. Males can be identified by the extended fins and bright colours when compared to the females who will be fully in body.
